Most of these sorts are in File Folder Activity format.
There’s all sorts of preschool workbooks floating around out there, teaching many of these same concepts - colors, shapes, numbers and counting, sorting, etc. And while I agree that preschoolers should be learning these things, I don’t think it should happen with a workbook. They’ll have plenty of time for workbooks when they start school - right now, let them be kids who learn through play. These sorts are a great way to do that.
The cool thing about this set is that the files are designed to be printed as photos, which can save you money on color printing. (There is an identical product in my store designed for letter-sized color prints
; please choose the one that best fits your printing availability.)
These activities are designed for interaction between an adult and a child. This is an opportunity for conversation and exploration - the preschooler in your life will need guidance as he/she figures out how to use these materials.
At the risk of being completely cheesy, I believe the goal of all interactions with your preschooler should be:
- to make her feel loved
- to help her understand the world
- to expand her vocabulary
- to gradually build her ability to do things on her own.
With that in mind, the activities in this Preschool Learning Set are very much meant for parent / child interaction.
I think the greatest part of these materials is the wide variety of object images used - what an amazing opportunity to build a child’s vocabulary and schema while having fun! These can double as vocabulary building activities for English Language Learners, or as tools for speech teachers working with young children.
This set contains the following sorts:
