This resource supports the following Early Learning Development Standards in the area of Mathematics:
Note: Per Hawaii’s Early Development Standards (HELDS) “common” geometric shapes include circle, square, rectangle, and triangle. The Common Core standards for Kindergarten references these 2- dimensional shapes and hexagon. Additional shapes are provided for you to select from.
Attributes of Shapes for Preschoolers:
Circle: a curved line that is round all the way around.
Diamond: four sides, also called a rhombus.
Heart: symbol of love.
Heptagon: a seven sided polygon.
Hexagon: a six sided polygon.
Octagon: an eight sided polygon.
Oval: a rounded, elongated shape.
Parallelogram: four sides with two sets of parallel lines.
Pentagon: 5 sides
Rectangle: four right angles.
Square: four right angles, four equal sides.
Trapezoid: a four sided shape with two parallel sides.
Triangle: a three sided shape.
Also included are: five learning activities, data sheets, directions label, and materials to complete a Work Sample.
