This is a comprehensive notes organizer for the present subjunctive with the uses of WEIRDO, two clauses and QUE. It is for introducing the subjunctive for the first time and walks the student, systematically, through what it is, how to form it and when to use it. It includes examples in English, samples of conjugations of all possible verb types, the irregulars (using DISHES), common verbs and phrases for the WEIRDO acronym. Finally, there is graduated practice with verb conjugations. The first activity has students practicing from the infinitive and the second practice from the present indicative. Finally, there is a basic practice activity of deciding between the subjunctive and the indicative.
I have taught the subjunctive for 12 years and I have tried all methods. I have found that introducing it all at once with WEIRDO is by far the best method. My students have great success with this structure.
