PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

This game is a fun way for students to practice their preterit tense conjugations! Each page has 10 dominoes on it (180 dominoes total); one side of the domino has a subject pronoun (including vosotros) and the other has a conjugated form of a verb in the preterit tense.

Students play in groups of 4-5, and the rules are similar to basic dominoes. Each player gets 7 dominoes to start with and you play by setting one down one card at a time. The only way to connect two dominoes is by matching either a subject to a verb or a verb to a verb. (More detailed instructions and a sample game layout is also included in the document). If you do not have a domino that can be played, draw one from the pile. If you draw two cards and still do not have a domino to play, the turn moves to the next player. The first player to get rid of all their dominoes, wins.

Example: If I set down a card that had "ella/comes" on it, the next person could do one of several things:
1. Play a domino with a verb conjugated in the él/ella/Usted form so that the verb was touching the "ella" part of my domino
2. Play a domino with the subject pronoun "tú" so that it was touching the "comes" part of my domino
3. Play a domino with a different verb conjugated in the tú form so that it is touching the "comiste" part of my domino
*Just like scrabble, anywhere that the dominoes touch has to make sense. "yo" and "aprendieron" cannot touch because they don't go together!

Tips: Print each set of dominoes on different colored paper/cardstock so it's easy to keep track of any lost dominoes! Draw a few example plays on the board (or use the sample game layout) for students to reference while they play...they usually have fun with the game, but most have never played dominoes because they aren't 80 years old.

Make sure to check out the preterite tense dominoes!
Let me know if you'd like a set with particular verbs, in different colors, etc.
