Present Tense Stem-Changing Verbs PODER and DORMIR Lesson Plan for Spanish 2 - Verbos PODER y DORMIR

Students learn about these stem-changing verbs with a presentation and/or handout. They will use two authentic texts to practice these verbs and food vocabulary. In the final oral activity, they will work in pairs to create a skit based on the situations provided. 

Objectives

  • Students can talk about the main causes of insomnia.
  • Students can describe the benefits of certain food items.
  • Students can use the verb poder in the present correctly to express potential or ability.
  • Students can describe what insomnia is, its symptoms, and other related basic facts about it. 
  • Students can write advice about what to do with certain health problems, especially on the topic of insomnia and eating in a healthy manner.
  • Students can discuss the potential benefits of certain items.
  • Students can discuss and exchange opinions about health topics and offer solutions, especially on the topic of insomnia and eating in a healthy manner.
  • Students can understand when others talk about common health problems related to sleeping and food.
  • Students can understand articles related to insomnia and similar sleep problems.
  • Students can read and understand descriptions of certain individual’s health problems.
  • Students can identify and understand common food items.

  • Aprender vocabulario relacionado con la comida 
  • Aprender qué es la raíz de un verbo y cómo se modifica en los verbos PODER y DORMIR

De qué se trata

Los alumnos aprenderán sobre los verbos que cambian de raíz, específicamente los verbos poder y dormir, mediante una presentación y/o hoja suelta y una práctica escrita. Luego utilizarán dos textos auténticos para practicar estos verbos y el vocabulario de la comida. En la actividad final oral los alumnos trabajarán en parejas para poner en práctica lo aprendido creando diálogos basados en situaciones.
