PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

This is a FUN and HIGHLY engaging Project Based Learning Activity to use within your American History class! This is an investigation that incorporates early American history with the idea of preserving the past. Students will take a "tour" through 9 of the original 13 colonies and answer the Essential Question of "Is it important to Preserve National Monuments and Structures?".

In each state (colony), they will be visiting 3 different historical sites. They will have to research that particular site as well as calculate a budget for their trip. They will visit Expedia and calculate travel and hotel costs with each place they visit! GREAT way to incorporate math with history! They will also identify their historical landmarks of a map of that state, and complete a journal entry reflecting on their "travels" within that state.

Here is a list of the places they will "visit":

1. Connecticut:
-Ft. Griswold Battlefield, Mark Twain House and the Old State House

2. Massachusetts:
-Plimouth Plantation, Freedom Trail, and Salem

3. Rhode Island:
-Slater Mill, Smiths Castle, and Brown University

4. New York:
-Statue of Liberty, Metropolitan Museum of Art and Trinity Church

5. Pennsylvania:
-Constitution Convention Center, Liberty Bell, and Betsy Ross House

6. Delaware:
-Newcastle Historical Society, Belmont Hall, and Ft. Delaware

7. Virginia:
-Jamestown, Mt. Vernon, and Colonial Williamsburg

8. South Carolina:
-Ft. Sumter, Old Slave Mart Museum, and Magnolia Plantation

9. Georgia:
-Stone Mountain Park, Dahlonega, and Chickamauga

For the final activity, students will take a look at the current issue of removing Confederate Memorials/Statues affecting various cities within the United States. This is a GREAT way to tie in current events!
