Students review Dwight Eisenhower's presidency and life and times by completing a timeline activity and answering 4 questions. There are 22 items for students to place on the timeline, and they classify each item according to a system detailed in the instructions. Students then complete one task for 6 items of their choice and another for 4 other items of their choice. All instructions are provided in the handout. There are arrows in the first two lines of the timeline showing students the direction to fill out the pieces in. This could work for a sub! Answers are provided where appropriate.
Sample timeline items and questions include:
--attended West Point
--led D-Day landings
--distributes uranium to help maintain peace
--approves funding for interstate highways
--signs bill to create NASA
--What do you consider Eisenhower's greatest success and why? Would historians agree with you, why or why not?
--If you could give one piece of advice to Eisenhower at any point during his life, what would it be and why? Do you think he would have heeded your advice, why or why not?
***a teacher's note is included in the file describing an alternate way students can complete this activity***
