Our set of 24 Task Cards makes a great companion to any informational text about presidents.
We originally created this product to use with any of the Who Was (Is) Presidents books published by the Penguin Group (USA) Inc. As of August, 2016 there are 10 different books that these task cards will work with: George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, Ulysses S. Grant, Theodore Roosevelt, Woodrow Wilson, Franklin Roosevelt, John F. Kennedy, Ronald Reagan, and Barack Obama. Several of these books are on the Scholastic Book Order and can be obtained with bonus points.
We also discovered that ReadWorks.org has reading passages about many presidents that is free to join and free to print and use. If using this resource, the passages are short so students may not be able to find answers to all task cards. However, this is a great opportunity for students to practice some independent research (internet, president books checked out from the school library) to answer each question.
Classroom Use: The task cards are great to use for independent work, centers, or we like to purchase multiple copies of the books and use them in a guided reading group.
1) 24 Task Cards
2) Recording sheet. We have the students put the task card number and the page number in the book from which they found the answer.
3) Cover sheet for the recording booklet.
4) Recording sheet with no lines for task card #23 where students draw a picture of the president they are reading about. You may also choose to have students complete all the task cards using the recording sheet without lines.
