Students often struggle pulling meaningful information out of charts and graphs. In this DBQ the students will examine 7 graphics, from bar graphs to pie charts to understand the impact of the internet on the presidential election process.
The first two graphs show the escalation of campaign costs over time. The students will naturally wonder what caused these increases to occur and the answer is invariably technology: whether it be the widespread availability of the radio or the first televised presidential debate; technology has changed the way elections are run.
The students will examine costs and postulate the benefits of the internet ad campaigns and draw conclusions relevant to their lives.
