This assignment gives students a chance to step into the shoes of James Monroe, 5th President of the United States.
Students will first read a brief and simple summary of the issues surrounding the Monroe Doctrine.
Four thought-provoking questions follow. Students will have to use problem-solving, decision-making and critical-thinking skills to answer the questions. Students may have to research current issues to answer the last two questions.
I use this with my 7th graders, but it can be used with grades 7-12.
