Product Description
This worksheet will have students THINKING!!! Gives students a chance to step into the shoes of President James K. Polk.

Students will start with a short and simple background reading on the events leading to the Mexican-American War. You can use this as an introduction OR as reinforcement. I usually go over a little background and vocabulary and then let the students dive right in. I like for them to make a decision without knowing exactly what the President actually did. Then they can compare.

8 questions are included. Most are higher order thinking questions: problem-solving, decision-making, and critical-thinking. Students are also given current issues to respond to, such as immigration from Mexico. They may have to do additional research.

I use this with 7th graders, but it's suitable for grades 7-12.
