This document has your students looking at the candidates’ platforms. I collected the information from TIME FOR KIDS online. They sourced that “the candidates’ positions were culled from their websites and other primary sources”. I decided to keep the candidate’s names off of the document to spur in depth discussion on the issues and allow students to have educated opinions. Candidate A is Mitt Romney and Candidate B is Barack Obama.
Please consider your students’ stamina during activities like this. Consider discussing a platform a day so your students are not over loaded with information or lose interest in the topic. Based on your classroom’s reading levels, decide how to deliver the information presented in the document as well. Remember, we are molding future citizens, and it is vital that this comes across as important information to consider when voting as an adult. After all, they are our future, so let’s help make them an educated voter by “planting seeds” this year.
