The 2016 Presidential election is under way!
Prepare your students for Decision 2016 with this 130-page resource. This 130-page unit is designed to make the election process real and relevant to elementary aged children. Students will learn about the process of electing a president and will experience this process themselves through the election of a class mascot (a stuffed animal ordered through one of several suggested charity organizations’ websites). Government and election concepts and vocabulary will be taught, and students will learn about the presidential election process. This pro-cess will be compared to the process students will go through as they take part in their own election for Class Mascot. For older students, the Presidential election process can be emphasized, while for younger students, emphasis should be placed on the Class Mascot election process, with a simple over-view of the presidential election process given. While this unit ties in very well with the election of a U.S. President, it can be used, with minimal modification, in non-election years. The following re-sources are included in this unit:
