How do you get your way? Introduce students to rhetorical terms and techniques of persuasion by seeing how many they are already using through a class brainstorming activity.
Students will then practice applying their skills by identifying the rhetorical techniques with a partner as they read Pres. George Washington's and Pres. Barack Obama's first inaugural speeches. Using the matrix to help guide them as they go.
Finally, students have a watching guide for students to make meaning from President Donald Trump's speech. They will have the opportunity to assess the tools he used and determine their effectiveness.
