This PowerPoint presentation examines the Reconstruction policies of Presidents Lincoln and Johnson. It begins with Lincoln's Second Inaugural Address and his attitude toward rebuilding the nation. It examines his "10% Plan" and sets up a division between the President and Congress. It then examines the terms of the Wade-Davis bill, the division amongst Republicans over reconstruction policy and deals with how Lincoln dealt with it. It also covers the form and purpose of the Freedman's Bureau. It continues by examined the background of Andrew Johnson and how his formative experience played a role in his policies. It covers the election of former Confederates to the US government, the rise of black codes, and the reality of sharecropping. It ends by setting up Radical Reconstruction.
