Presidents’ Day is an American holiday celebrated on the third Monday in February. While the meaning of Presidents’ Day has changed over the years, we now spend the day recognizing the accomplishments of our country’s many presidents. Part of that celebration also includes a day off from school. But what if you couldn’t have the day off until you proved your knowledge of our nation’s presidents? Can you show what you know and escape to get home on time?? Students will work to solve problems and riddles to complete this Presidents’ Day Escape Room and earn their day off!
This Presidents’ Day Escape Room is set up in 5 parts, but can go in any order: President Poem (acrostic with template), Government Vocabulary Stems (fill-in-the-blank with 10 terms), President Facts (9 presidents: identify number, years served, and political party), President Home Towns (research to learn where 10 presidents were born and add their names to the map), Name That President! (read 12 president clue cards and research to learn who each president is).
Prep, set-up, and completing this Presidents’ Day Escape Room is simple! Allow for 1.5-2 hours total. Students will complete each part, show you their answer key or product, solve a riddle, and then get a code card. At the end, they will unscramble their code cards to solve a final riddle. Then, students can “unlock” the code! I have a reward box students will reach in for a prize (reward coupons, pencils, candy, erasers, etc). Parts can be manipulated/cut to fit the needs and time in your classroom (i.e. you can implement 4 parts instead of 5, or you can cut the riddles to save time, etc).
You and your students are sure to have fun breaking the code to make it home for their 3-day weekend and Presidents’ Day!
