I absolutely love this unit because it provides lots of reading and writing practice, while teaching kids so much about George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. With so many things to teach and time always such an issue in the classroom, it's a great way to combine social studies lessons as well as reading and writing skills. The bonus is that the materials are engaging and sure to interest your students…For example, who wouldn't want to learn about the history of pennies? Or when Washington found a stray dog on the battlefield? Or when Lincoln got a letter from an 11 year old telling him that he'd look better with a beard! Lots of fun!
