We all love choices! Included is a full day lesson that can easily be used as a menu for mini lessons on the 1st National Holiday celebrating a man, George Washington.
Kick off the lesson getting students to think about what they would do as president. You are given 5 discussion questions like-Who would they rely on? Who would help them in hard times? Students think then discuss. Then focus them by having them read the researched text about the history of Presidents' day. Pop up questions are included to keep students thinking about what they are reading.
A structured mini-research lesson about the presidents is included along with a fun tech integration that has your students crowdsourcing research data for everyone to use and analyze.
Or if you are short on time there are two readings from George Washington and Abraham Lincoln that have students looking at leadership during hard times. Each reading has its own key included.
The closer even has options too. Get the resources you need to have students "Tweet out" a metaphor for their learning. Or have them use the provided reflection questions to think about what they learned and help them make deeper connections.
