The passage is called, "Is it really Presidents' Day?"Did you know that the Federal Government doesn't recognize the third Monday in Feb. as Presidents' Day? That's right. ---- I offer this SAME passage in two different formats. This particular passage is formatted for interactive notebooks. It is a similar passage and questions just formatted differently from the full page version.
If you would like to purchase the one page passage with 7 text-based questions that go along with the passage, click HERE
. You can then read the description to see which format works best for you.
The passage is a half sheet, so it will work perfectly to glue sideways into an interactive reading notebook. Once glued into the interactive notebook, students can write their thinking out to the side of the passage. This is a short close reading type passage but it is filled with fun info.
In addition to the passage, there are three flippable activities (all printed on one sheet) for their notebook. One is on the definition of vary (since the date has various names in different states), one focuses on what the student thinks the date should be called, and the other focuses on four comprehension questions related to the text.
In addition to doing this activity as a whole group reading lesson, you could also have students do it during a literacy center. Feel free to use it in your classroom however you would like.
