The History of Presidents' Day
Learn the history behind Presidents’ Day! Students will explore an article of informational text from History.com to complete a set of guided questions. Students can also complete a timeline of events leading up to Presidents’ Day as we know it today. Two versions are included to allow for differentiation. Students fill in squares with facts for the timeline in one version, and the 2nd version students cut and paste squares with the facts provided. Two different writing prompts are included. One allows students to respond to what they would do if they were the president. The other allows them to offer their thoughts and opinions about federal holidays being celebrated on Mondays.
The following printable pages are included in this activity:
*Answers for timeline
*Squares with facts to paste in timeline
*Writing template for If I Were President…
*Writing prompt/template for thoughts on federal holidays being on Mondays (What Do You Think?)
