This fun Presidents Project is a great way to have your students evaluate the performance of America's greatest (and least-great) Commanders-in-Chief!
The download includes and instructions page, rubric, and some pictures of completed examples you can use to help visualize the completed projects.
For the project, students analyze several surveys (links to these are provided) on the performance of America's presidents to design a roller coaster that represents the highs and lows of America's Executive Branch.
Students decide on which criteria they want to judge what makes someone a great president. Students consider categories like Moral Authority, Managing a Crisis, or Setting an Agenda, then select the presidents they feel performed best and worst based on their characteristics.
They then design a roller coaster based on those highs and lows and explain their reasoning for their rankings.
The project can be completed individually, in pairs, or groups and usually takes anywhere from a 1-3 full class periods depending on how much time you want students to work on it in class vs at home.
