Mount Rushmore is an iconic monument featuring Presidents Washington, Jefferson, Lincoln, and T. Roosevelt. This PowerPoint shows how each President was chosen to be a part of the monument because of their contributions to the United States. There are eight fun facts and corresponding original photographs by the author about the monument. Here is an example of one of the fun facts - ”Fun Fact: Some people thought they painted the eyes to make them sparkle. Actually, they carved 20-inch shafts of granite (about as long as your arm) to reflect the sunlight.” Another fun fact is about the construction of the noses, and the students are challenged to answer the question, “Who Knows Whose Nose?” Also featured are some insights about the constructing of the monument by sculptor Gutzon Borglum and his workers. This PowerPoint can be easily adapted for a variety of grade levels for celebrating President's Day or as a part of the social studies curriculum.
