Colin McNaughton's twist on the Three Little Pigs in the Preston Pig series is so much fun. The bright pictures and captions work beautifully for making inferences, comparing and contrasting, and so many more skills.
In this unit, the focus includes schema building, making comparisons, discussion questions, making inferences, visualizing and summarizing, and a response to reading (a new adventure for Preston Pig). The activities can be done as a mentor text lesson to teach the skill or in small group with your readers.
The reading level of the book is between a second and third grade level despite larger print. There are a handful of wonderful vocabulary words to use too.
