Here is a bundle of how I introduce the CONCEPT of the Spanish Preterit vs. Imperfect tenses. We master the concept completely in English before I teach it in Spanish, which is a little different, but works! Included is the notes I use to introduce them both, then a list of keywords which indicate one tense or the other. Then we memorize them in Spanish, and categorize them on the Stoplight. Red=Preterit, Green=Imperfect and yellow is for Y, Cuando, and Mientras. Also included in this bundle is a Homework assignment, a Practice WS over the keywords, a story activity where students categorize the sentences as P/I, then a T-chart where they do the same-with the option to have them cut/glue to mix it up. you get the idea! I have found that once they have a good grasp of the concepts, the conjugating part is just more endings to memorize and much easier
