This 22 slide presentation will introduce your kids to spelling changes in the preterite (-gar, -car, and -zar verbs). It includes:
--Bellwork (with answers). The bellwork focuses on preterite vs imperfect.
--Notes and sample spelling change verbs
--2 slides of fill in the blank on your whiteboard practice with answers (some verbs change, some don't, your kids have to practice identifying which change and which don't)
--There is a slide directing your kids to complete a 2 page conjugation practice worksheet that is also included in this package. The conjugations are all in the preterite. My goal in this activity is to put a neat bow on the preterite as spelling change verbs are the last preterite type that our curriculum covers, so this worksheet has regular preterite, spelling changers, stem changers, irregulars, and the kids should be able to work out which verb behaves which way. Answers to the worksheet are not included.
--10 slides giving your students a verb and a subject and asking them to make an original sentence with each. All these verbs are spelling changers, but not all are in the "yo" form, so not all need the change, students must decide when to change and when not to.
--It concludes with a game where students are given a verb, tense, and subject and the first team to give the correct form gets a point and we, once again, practice making students see a variety of verbs and identify how to conjugate them.
***WARNING: my students became so passionate about the game that one girl, when the other team got the answer before her, slammed one of my small whiteboards on the floor, cracking it.
