In this project, students will research at least three problems in society today and devise a plan that suggests solutions for the problems. Then, they will create a plan for a Utopian society that aims to prevent these problems of society from reoccurring in the future.
This project works well as a cross-curricular activity in English and Social Studies. English students may complete this project as they study dystopian novels (i.e., The Hunger Games, The Maze Runner, Fahrenheit 451, 1984, The Giver, etc.). Social Studies students may complete this project as they study various forms of government and socio-political issues.
A grading rubric is included to guide the students in their product creation and writing.
The students will practice and master the following skills:
Research and incorporate evidence to solve a problem.
Write persuasively using specific word choices and techniques.
Try new approaches to writing focusing on specific purposes and audiences.
Also available in Word format.
