This writing process package
contains three PowerPoint presentations, one for each of the three steps of the writing process that seem to require the most instruction in the middle grades - Prewriting, Revising, and Proofreading (or Editing).
You can see each of the resources included in this bundle by clicking on their individual listings here:
Prewriting – Step 1 of the Writing Process
Revising – The Writing Process Step Kids Love to Skip
Proofreading – You’re Nearing the Finish Line!
Prewriting, a 23 slide PowerPoint presentation, encourages kids to generate ideas about their writing topics by using various types of graphic organizers. The graphic organizers presented include simple and more complex webs, time lines and plot maps, and three-column information charts. Students are provided examples and then given the opportunity to try each type of organizer on their own. Students learn that certain types of organizers are best suited to particular types of essays.
Revising, a 25 slide PowerPoint presentation, teaches students several specific methods of revising their writing. Examples and practice are provided for the following methods of revising: adding content, deleting content, changing the order, changing the point of view or the tense, adding or replacing specific words, and adding dialog.
Proofreading, a 37 slide PowerPoint presentation, shows students how to effectively use the proofreading step of the writing process. It includes descriptions of specific errors to look for when proofreading for capitalization, punctuation, grammar, spelling and format. Student activities are included for each of these areas individually as well as combined.
