There are basic strokes that a child should be able to make before they are ready to begin writing. Here is a document that I created to use as a portfolio page for my preschoolers.
An important precursor to handwriting is prewriting strokes. Students learn the eye-hand coordination needed to develop letter formation through prewriting strokes. It also teaches angle execution and motor planning. Prewriting also teaches students top to bottom and left to right movements.
It is so important to teach children prewriting strokes.
