Pride & Prejudice is a perennial best seller, but engaging students in Jane Austen’s work can be challenging. That’s where an anticipation guide becomes essential. Using an anticipation guide can help students activate prior knowledge and schema before they even begin to read the novel. This can be a stand-alone activity, but I prefer to use it as the groundwork for a classroom discussion. I often end this activity by asking students to record predictions about the novel’s themes.
