While the Pride and Prejudice Pro Pack is great, it does not focus on ACT-style quizzes for each chapter. Since this is a novel that I love and want others to continue to teach, I will begin the process of writing ACT tests for each chapter, starting with Chapter 1 of Jane Austen's classic.
This quiz is only FIVE questions. It took me over an hour to write. If you've never written this kind of quiz, it's hard to understand why. The point is to use reading skills stems and then distracters that make the quiz difficult. And then you teach WHY and HOW it's difficult.
Even if you just use this to guide class discussion, it's a valuable tool in practicing for the ACT, SAT, Common Core, CCR, or other skills-based reading quizzes. Once you see the format, you'll want to write similar quizzes for each chapter. I am planning on continuing my work, but it takes too long to make any promises for time, unless your district wants to pay me to do this.
You want to address reading skills without teaching to the test. This is a good start while using a classic novel rather than some meaningless article in an ACT practice book.
