Product Description
As we read Pride and Prejudice, we focus a lot on how communication has changed in the last 150+ years. This assignment takes the letter sent from Miss Bingley to Jane informing her of their exit from Netherfield and breaks it into 3 pieces. I ask students to take each piece of the letter and reduce its content to a Tweet (280 characters). Students enjoy condensing the information down and using informal, 21st-century language in place of Miss Bingley's original formal language. This helps them to figure out exactly what is contained in the letter. We also continue our discussion of how communication has changed, for better and worse. For variation, I used to have students use the original Twitter 180 characters, and that works well too.
