What songs would be on Elizabeth's playlist? What would Mr. Darcy order from Amazon?
Enhance students' awareness of character development!
This is a creative assignment I designed to evaluate students' understanding of characters in Pride and Prejudice; however, it can be used with any character from literature or history...even current "characters" in the news.
The directions for the activity are as follows:
Imagine that your character exists in our society.
Imagine a phone homepage that displays his or her apps.
Choose apps from the following options, and then complete the illustration/discussion component for each. (Brief description= 154-259 words).
You may be comical, but be sure to accurately represent your character’s traits as we’ve discussed them so far in the novel.
You will be evaluated on creativity and evidence of your understanding of the plot and character.---
I provide a blank cell phone where students draw or paste a background.
They must then choose options under categories that include:
--Entertainment (Netflix, Spotify, and YouTube),
--social connections (Facebook, Instagram, and match.com),
--shopping on Amazon,
--legitimate news, and
--self-indulgence (selfies, bitmoji, ringtones, games).
Students are required to discuss why their character would have accessed or posted various items.
The kids really love this project and I get awesome results.
My project for Pride and Prejudice is especially amusing to the kids because it features Elizabeth with a speech bubble saying,
"You used to call me on my cell phone"
and a graphic with Darcy’s head on Drake's body dancing to that song.
If you have a few skills with Word you can adjust the graphic, if not, I'm sure there's someone around who can help you out.
