I created this Smartnotebook to teach my primary class the structure of word problems, and how to use bar models. Every day I would complete 1-2 of these problems on the Smartboard with my students observing/guiding/helping.
The first 6 slides are instructions for the teacher and models for students to see.
This file has 183 word problems, which include:
-Join Problems (addition): Where a person or group gets more of something than they had at the start.
Ex: Matt has 4 balls. Ted gave him 2 more balls. How many balls does Matt have altogether?
-Part Part Whole Problems: The total amount doesn't change. These problems describe combinations (ways to make numbers).
Ex: Connie has 3 red balls and 2 blue balls. How many balls does she have?
-Compare Problems: One person or group has more or does more than the other person or group.
Ex: Mom made 1 pie for dessert. Dad made 2 more pies than mom. How many pies did dad make?
-Separate Problems: Something goes away, or someone gives something away, or someone takes something away.
Ex: Chris had 8 markers. She gave 5 markers to Juan. How many markers did she have left?
All slides are color coordinated and labeled with what type of problem you'll be solving (join problems are green, part part whole problems are blue, and compare problems are yellow).
Your students will recognize the colors and language of each type of problem.
You can save the work you do each day so you can go back and review problems (it's all in one file so it's very convenient!).
These slides are very user friendly, with everything locked into place (except the square which you can move into place in your answer sentence).
I hope you enjoy the 180+ problems in one Smartnotebook file!
