Help your students build their vocabulary with this A-Z picture dictionary. This is one of my students favorite centers. They use store bought picture dictionaries to write down 7 words that start with each letter. Then they draw pictures to go along with each word. I have a set of colored pencils for each of them to use during the center. I have also put magazines in this center so they can cut out pictures and glue them in their picture dictionary. We start this journal at the beginning of the year by doing a page a week. But the end of the year they have their own picture dictionary they can take home over the summer and use to complete their second grade writing homework.
This picture dictionary is perfect for building vocabulary and for English Language Learners.
Instructions: When I staple this journal together, I run all the pages back to back. The cover is run on card stock to make it sturdier. Page 1 is the Written by page. I take their picture writing at their desk and glue it on this page. They love this page! Then the A large picture page is xerox to the back. Xerox it so that you have the large picture on the left with the letter and the blank six sheets page on the right.
