This worksheet takes students through President McKinley's Declaration of War. There are three sections in the worksheet. The first section has students analyze a part of the declaration of war, identify how fighting between the Spanish and Cubans impacted the U.S. and then asks the students to pull a quote out to support their answer. The second section is a graphic organizer which instructs the students to read the section of the declaration of war which lists the justification to go to war with Spain and summarize it in their own words. The last thing the students should do in the second section is to rank the justifications from best to worst in the column on the right. After the student complete the worksheet, have a class discussion about their rankings. In the third section, the students will once again analyze a section of the declaration of war and answer a question.
