Primary sources are a wonderful way to encourage critical thinking and valuable group discussions during your social studies lessons. This question card and worksheet set can be used with any primary source. The seven question cards include general questions that can be used for any primary source as well as specific questions regarding photographs, artwork, documents, maps, artifacts, and music or audio recordings.
My suggestion is to print the question cards on card stock, laminate them, and put them on a key ring. You can give students the question cards to use in partners or small groups as they examine and discuss various primary sources. Alternatively, keep the set as a handy resource to grab when discussing primary sources as a class. You can even print the questions to display in your room.
I've also included a two-sided worksheet that can be used with any primary source.
