Don't just give a student the correct spelling when he or she gets stuck, and please don't say that "spelling doesn't matter." (Current research says it does!) Instead, use this quiet approach that helps students use spelling strategies they have learned in class. When a student needs help spelling a word, he takes the first step by writing what he hears or how he thinks the word is spelled in column one. Next, you mark his word with various symbols, cueing him to try again in column two. Finally, a star or the correct spelling is written in the last column. This is a great way to build good spelling habits!
Included in this 4-page packet is a color set and a black & white set. You will need to print double-sided and cut in half.
