The first in my set of primary rubrics. I have used this rubric in kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade with great success. Students, teachers, peers, and/or parents can evaluate student writing over time. I have found students can use the rubric over time to compare and compete against themselves to improve performance. This rubric utilizes a 16 point max score. Components include finger spacing, upper and lower case, end marks and does the sentence make sense. It is a great way for a student to monitor their growth over time and allows them to participate actively in the RtI process. Perfect for K-2 students. When used in conjuncture with the level 2 rubric, it can further the RtI data collection process and allow for a smooth transition between writing levels.
