This product teaches prime factorization using two methods, the factor tree method and the birthday cake method.
Of course your class may vary, but here is what this product looks like in my classroom:
Day One-We complete the interactive notebook factor tree notes, then practice a couple of problems together. I make sure we discuss that no matter which two factors you start with, the prime factorization remains the same. We make a different factor tree for 48 on the notes to show this. Then, students complete the half sheet practice. We move onto the birthday cake method in the same manner. Students work on the extra practice page in class or as a homework assignment.
Day Two-We do a brief review, and then I introduce the factor tree craft. I like to assign students their numbers so I can be strategic, but you could also allow students to choose. After completing the craft students independently take the exit slip so I can assess their readiness to move on.
