This Prime Factorization lesson will get students thinking about what it means to find the prime factorization of a number. Often as teachers, we tell students how to solve a problem instead of letting them discover it on their own. This lesson provides a hands-on way to guide students into discovering how to find prime factorization. Students will use prime number cards to figure out the prime factorization of a number. The lesson suggests students working in groups but this activity would also work for independent work or work in pairs. Once completing this lesson, students will be prepared for learning about how to use a factor tree to find the prime factorization of a number.
