A 42-slide presentation introducing Canada's 23 Prime Ministers from 1867-2016. Key dates, background information, and a picture are provided for each Prime Minister.
As well, 60+ historical events -- in Canada and worldwide -- are given in relation to the relevant Prime Ministers. Students can see how Canada grew and developed under various PMs as provinces and territories were added to the country, as Canada took an increasingly active role in the world, and as Canada systematically adopted the legislation that made the country what it is today.
Students are also introduced to key historical events such as the Red River Rebellion, North-West Rebellion, Boer War, the World Wars, Conscription Crises, the Great Depression, women's suffrage, Canada joining the League of Nations, UN, NATO, NORAD, etc. Each event is mentioned briefly, allowing it to become a point of discussion or a point for further research at the teacher's discretion.
NOTE: To "gameify" this lesson, partner it with "Prime Ministers of Canada Bingo (A Class Set)" -- 35 randomized bingo cards and a master calling card reviewing the Prime Ministers of Canada and their dates in power.
