This Prime and Composite "Slap It!" Differentiated Game is an engaging and simple way for students to practice identifying prime and composite numbers. This file come with number cards from 1-200. This activity can be differentiated by giving groups of students different numbers to work with based on their needs. (For example: Most of the students in my fourth grade math class will work with numbers 1-100. I give the numbers 1-50 to my students who are struggling with this concept. My students who need to be challenged get numbers 1-200.)
Directions: Have one player shuffle the deck and deal all of the cards face down. No one should look at the cards. Each player takes turns flipping the top card off their stack and placing the card in the center. If the card is a prime number, the first player to slap the card gets all of the cards in the middle of the pile. If a player slaps a composite number, the other player gets the cards in the center. The player with the most cards at the end of the game wins!
The number cards, instructions, and Prime or Composite charts were designed in black and white so you can save your color ink! I print them on colored card stock and laminate for a reusable resource.
