Do your kids like word puzzles? Do you want them to review sight words?
Try these printable sight word scramble puzzles. Students assemble the building blocks of letters to spell sight words. Each word has a different border, so they can sort them by border color and design, before spelling the word.
The set includes 44 of the 52 Dolch Primer sight words (that are 2- 3- or 4-letters), including:
all, am, are, ate, be, but, came, did, do, eat, four, get, good, have, he, into, like, must, new, no, now, on, our, out, ran, ride, saw, say, she, so, soon, that, they, too, want, was, well, went, what, who, will, with, yes.
I have omitted the 5- and 6-letter words. I also omitted the word “this” (unfortunately it can be rearranged accidentally into a questionable word…need I say more?).
Several puzzles can be arranged into more than one sight word (both are included):
ate = eat
on = no
now = won
saw = was
In addition, a few puzzles can be arranged into words that are not sight words:
are = ear
but = tub
eat = tea
ride = dire
went = newt
what = thaw
who = how
I have included separate work mats for the 2-, 3-, and 4-letter words, as well as a combo mat.
You can put each word puzzle into a separate snack-sized zip-lock baggie for individual children to solve, or groups of puzzles on tables for several students to work on.
Students can assemble the blocks on a work mat, put the letters into a pocket chart, and write their answers on the answer sheet, or just share them with the class.
