Principles of Democracy: Connecting Plato, Aristotle, and Enlightenment Ideology to U.S. Government
Use the powerful Interactive Lecture strategy to engage critical thinking skills in students. This lesson utilizes reflective questioning as it organizes the large ideas of democracy and Enlightenment philosophy by chunking them down to manageable size with advanced organizers. The student will gain knowledge and understanding for the foundational political philosophies of democracy, Social Contract Theory, and the purpose of government. At the end of the lesson the student will apply these philosophies to the U.S. revolutionaries by creating a political pamphlet from the perspective of an American colonist.
