This product is print and go - virtually no prep! 6 Math Challenges for the beginning of the school year!
I designed this escape room for beginning of the year fifth graders. This activity was designed as engaging review of key standards learned in fourth grade, including multiplying and dividing big numbers; adding, subtracting, and estimating with large numbers; finding area and perimeter of irregular shapes; adding and subtracting decimals; measuring and classifying angles; and finding equivalent fractions.
The only prep required for this escape room is forming groups of three to five students and printing one copy per group of each challenge. For example, I usually have eight groups of three or four students, so I print eight copies of Challenge #1, eight copies of Challenge #2, etc. and arrange on my back table. Another option is to assign partners to work through the escape room challenges. This requires a few more copies to be made. *I have found that assigning groups that are larger than four students makes it difficult for each students to contribute to the group and communicate efficiently and effectively.
