This is one of my favorite lessons to teach!
By making your own foam printing blocks, this technique is less costly than than other print-making methods and produces great results for small batches of prints. Best of all, the lesson can easily be modified for different ages and experience levels.
This is great lesson to teach fundamental design principals, such line, shape and value. I've used this method to make holiday-themed cards with elementary students, AND I've used it explain positive vs. negative space to high school students.
Unlike some other printing methods such as screen printing or linoleum blocks, the foam block prints seem to be intuitive for students of all ages.
With this free download, I've included: A basic materials list, Step by step instructions (with pictures!), and bunch of handy tips and tricks.
Basically everything that I've had to learn through experience has been neatly packaged, for your use.
Please let me know how this lesson worked for your class and, if you enjoy this project, I hope that you will try out some of my other materials.
