Looking for an engaging non-fiction text to teach literacy skills? Need your students to practice finding the main idea and recognizing supporting details in an engaging way?
Students will read and annotate Jay-Z's most recent NYT Op-Ed called "The Prison System Stalks Black People Like Meek Mill." The article is broken up into four sections; for each section, students will highlight or underline two supporting details and write the main idea. There are also four Common Core-aligned "skills" questions including prediction, context clues, evaluate, and author's purpose.
Students will love discussing this engaging article and will feel confident in building their literacy skills!
