This is one book, which is part of a 3-book series designed for helping students learn print concepts.
As we teachers know, a firm understanding of print concepts leads to excellent readers in the future. I created these books to help me teach print concepts in a fun way while also allowing children to practice reading familiar words.
I use these books just after introducing new print concepts. For example, I use them in a mini-lesson where I have just introduced a concept, then I read a "puppy book" as a whole class, discussing the print concept. After reading as a whole group, I give each student their own copy and allow them to practice reading. I also have them practice these readers in guided reading groups.
This book supports the kindergarten ELA common core standard K.RF.1 a-d: Demonstrates an understanding of the organization and basic functions of print.
