Activating learning by raising prior knowledge has many benefits:
It gives learners time to mentally prepare for the lesson, it reduces fear, pre-teaches relevant vocabulary and raises confidence in learning the topic.
Many students think that they already know a lot about food types and the nutrients in them. These two worksheets help activate their thinking about food and digestion in a fun and interactive way, while at the same time adressing common misconceptions. I usually have groups discuss the answers afther which I project the worksheet on the whiteboard and ask students to come forward and write X's next to the statements. They love the activity and are all fully engaged!
These pages are in MS Word format and editable so that you can add your own statements!
