Probability Lessons, Activities and a Project
This bundle of lessons is designed to teach probability. The lessons begin by introducing the concept of probability then, using the picture book ‘A Very Improbable Story’ by Edward Einhorn, students see examples of probability events. The terminology and concepts presented in these lessons are: possible outcomes, favorable outcomes, independent events, theoretical probability, experimental probability and tree diagrams. In the end students are required to design and execute a probability experiment involving two independent events. They must determine the theoretical probability of a favorable outcome and reflect on the actual results when the experiment is performed. Included are detailed teacher directions for each lesson, a blackline master and student worksheets. No prep is required other than supplies for experimentation: coins, dice, decks of cards, spinners, etc.
